Welcome to the Official Website for the Organic Music Festival
To understand the inspiration for the massive, multi-billion-dollar world of modern American electronic music festivals—the neon lights, the towering stages, the hundreds of thousands of us dancing together under the stars—you have to trace the lineage back to a single, transformative weekend in the mountains of Southern California. On June 22, 1996, we did something that had never been done before.
We took over the Snow Valley Mountain Resort, surrounded by the pine trees of the San Bernardino National Forest, and fundamentally shattered the boundaries between the underground rave scene and the legitimate, large-scale, commerically produced music festival.
Before that weekend, electronic music in America lived in the shadows. While Europe was dancing at massive legal outdoor festivals, the U.S. was still deeply entrenched in alternative rock and grunge. Raves were fleeting, renegade affairs held in abandoned warehouses and desert outcroppings, constantly chased by the authorities and dismissed by the music industry as an unmarketable trend. Organic ’96 changed that paradigm permanently. We created the blueprint for everything that followed.
Our History, Your Legacy
We are proud to occupy a sacred place in the origin story of the modern U.S. festival ecosystem—a milestone recognized by the very figures who went on to build the industry you know today.
As one of America’s first major, commercially produced electronic dance music festivals, we didn't just throw a party; we built an experience:
-
The Blueprint: The first massive dance festival in the Los Angeles area to bring the culture into the light.
-
The Production: Multiple stages, towering art installations, and a lineup of legendary headliners alongside nearly two dozen local DJ pioneers.
-
The Sound: We rocked the mountains using the exact same arena-concert Turbosound system that Pink Floyd used for their legendary 1990s world tours.
We proved that this music, this community, and this culture belonged on the grandest stage possible.
The Inspiration of Modern Electronic Music Festivals Today
We didn't just witness history—we wrote it. And the team that started it all has continued the tradition. The original Organic Music Festival was the direct inspiration for Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), Coachella, Electric Forest, Stagecoach, and countless other events over the years. A bold claim, and one that only the very same people who co-produces each of these events can say. We have been involved in putting smiles on faces and helping people dance since the bigging, and there is nothing stopping us any time soon!
Stay tuned. The rhythm of the forest keeps calling us back and we still have a lot of history and stories to share with you.
